Liberals have yet another de trop to add to their voluminous vapid Bush bashing, that being the assertion that Bush should have known and stopped the 9/11 attacks.
A statesman in best sense of the term, Daniel Patrick Moynihan is credited with uttering: “Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.”
Please recall that the two term President of the 1990′s was Bill Clinton. This is important because the Clinton administration’s ineffectiveness in dealing with Al Qaeda set the stage for the 9/11 Attacks. A brief timeline is in order:
1993– 1st attack on World Trade Center; 1994 plot foiled to blow up Philippines airliners, 1996 declares war on USA, 1997 Luxor, Egypt attacks on tourists, 1998 US embassy bombings, a January 2000 abortive attack on the USS The Sullivans, and the October 2000 attack on the USS Cole nearly sunk. The Clinton administrations responses were limited to small one-time US missile strikes, calling off a couple of assassination attempts (due to fears of collateral damage), and not seeking Bin Laden’s arrest while he was in Sudan. We also need to lay the blame for Clinton Justice Department appointee Jamie Gorelick infamous “wall of separation,” which prevented cooperation between law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies, because such actions might deny terrorists of their rights during trial. And of course if Bin Laden were at the top of the out-going Clinton administrations concerns they would have made it a priority to inform the Bush administration, but it did not. Had the Bush administration tried before 9/11 to mount an invasion of Afghanistan to get rid of the Al Qaeda threat these same liberal so eager to today blame Bush for 9/11 would have been accusing that administration of war mongering and gross overreaction.
