I like the direction of the Connie Mack plan but I fear the loegnr the cut cycle the more room there is for political shnanigans and obfuscation.This 10 year debt reduction plan is a joke. Make it real, now and short term. As I see it, the financial world is waiting to see our seriousness to address our debt and our credit rating will be adjusted accordingly. Also, do a simple, quick, broad based tax reform. Unfortunately, this is probably a long term project because of vested interest. Talk about Theatre of the Absurd!
I have 2 points;
1) HISD is asking for a $1Billion bond issue. I believe they had a bond issue a couple of years ago for about $500 Million. Why do they not have computers in the class room?
2) A standardize test should measure the students ability to function in society. Students should be able to read and understand an article and then write a cohesive statement that goes with this article. Also, standardize tests are evaluated against a core group to make sure they are neither to difficult or to easy. I suspect the lady would do better signing her daughter up for a comprehensive writing class than continuing to retake the test. However, I do not see a reason that the school is not able to get the results from the test of the students that fail to see where they are coming up short.
I have a real problem with the people who want to eliminate the test. I am old enough to remember when colleges were graduating functional illiterates.
