As the tax rates between corps and personal income becomes larger how many will change their status for taxation?

It also seems the only stick the republicans have for the cliff is debt limit.

    Chris,

A couple weeks ago you had great commentary that I only caught a part of and wanted to either hear of read the whole thing. You mentioned Khrushchev and a list of things that the US would do to hang themselves. I remember something about the media and unions. I just remember thinking that the analogy should be publicized to wake up some people.

    Best,

Please do an internet search on the “Laffer Curve.” The Heritage Foundation has an excellent article that every conservative ought to read and understand. As with everything in economics there is a balance point that gives the optimum in income vs. outlay. This is also true with taxes. As you correctly pointed out on the radio, when taxes get too high revenue goes down (because people delay spending and investing.) But when the tax rate gets too low (a rate we may never have seen yet) then the government is collecting so little that the revenue also drops. I’m not saying taxes should be raised, only that there IS a balance point. Probably the easiest argument to make, would be to look where the tax rates were when revenue was the highest percent of GDP, and use that number to determine where taxes ought to be, instead of where they are today.

    Regards,
    Mike Camara

Homer’s The Odyssey tells about an island inhabited by mythical creatures called sirens. Sirens were beautiful half-female, half-birdlike beings, who sang beautifully and seductively, thus luring sailors to their island. But when the ships came near, the boats would wreck on the jagged rocks surrounding the island. The sirens were luring the sailors to their deaths.
According to Homer, only two groups of sailors ever passed the sirens and remained alive. One was the ship of Odysseus. Before approaching the island, he had his crew fill their ears with wax and tie themselves to the mast of the ship. The other ship that passed successfully belonged to the argonauts. On it, Orpheus sang a tune of his own. It was so beautiful his sailors did not listen to the Siren’s Song.

Edd was asking for a description of our national fiscal situation that people may understand. Here’s my description:

Imagine a raging forest fire, heading directly for your neighborhood. The fire department has gone out with their pumper trucks, but only made a small dent on one small section of the fire, and even that has recovered and is now aflame and on the move toward your homes. Now, all the men are at the edge of the fire, peeing on the flames trying to put them out. Behind them, there are people in the neighborhood still going to school and having parties and such, assuming that the men who are peeing on the flames know what they are doing and will be successful. There are a few business owners that have closed down and moved out, knowing what is coming, earning the derision of the townspeople.

The men can only pee so much, so they call out Mr. Bush to join them. He tells them that his peeing on the fire won’t do anything to stop the oncoming onslaught, but the men keep yelling. So he pees on the fire.

Note that no one is clearing away the fuel that will fuel the fire, just as no one has trimmed and cleared the deadwood from the forest to begin with.

So what we have is a populace partying on, refusing to face reality, led by a group of people who failed to manage the situation to begin with, who refuse to take proper action now, and just keep pissing on a fire in a vain attempt to control a disaster that could destroy them all.

Chris, I have heard some weird interpritations of what the election results mean in the last few weeks. So here is mine. Romney got 3 million fewer votes than McCain and lost because he was not the best candidate. He wasn’t conservative enough for some of the base, so they stayed home. Obama got 8 million less votes than in 2008 because he has done a poor job. The talk about changing the Republican Party to be more like Democrates is crazy, and it would only help them.

I listened to your show and heard the near miss with the train story. I’ve had a few of those, but thought you might like to hear my near escape story.
Forty years ago I took my sisters ’64 Chevy Impala to the neighborhood store. On the way through the little community there was a yield sign at the ONLY crossroad. My speed limit was twenty, so I was probably doing about five coming up to the yield sign. The crossroad limit was thirty-five.
The next thing I remember was waking up in the hospital and finding out I had been unconsious for three days.
From the police report, since I still can’t remember what happened, I entered the intersection and was immediately struck by a brand new Mustang, broadside at the drivers door. The collision was so great it broke the block in half, and of course totaled the car. From witnesses, the police said that the kid driving the Mustang was traveling between 90 to somewhere over 100 when he hit me. He was high on pot, but only got a broke nose and totaled car out of the accident. The police said that the witnesses told them I had almost stopped at the yield sign, but the investigation concluded that the kid was traveling so fast, around 450ft. per second, that I probably never saw him, and he never touched his brakes.
Happy ending, banged me up pretty good but nothing broke or torn off, even though I went through the windshield and then back into the car.
Bad ending, my big sister lost her 1964 Chevy Impala and has never let me drive one of her vehicles since.
Great Job Chris, keep it up.
