Oct 15 (Field Level Media) – The Vancouver Canucks traded forward Aatu Raty to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday for forwards Brandon Buhr and Jacob Quillan.
Raty, 23, has tallied one goal through four games to start this season. Last season was his first time playing in more than 33 NHL games; he appeared in 66 contests and contributed four goals and 10 assists.
“We want to thank Aatu for all he has done for the organization, and we wish him well in Toronto,” Canucks general manager Ryan Johnson said in a release. “By acquiring Jacob and Brandon this move gives our group two new young players to work with as we continue to look for ways to improve our overall depth.”
A second-round draft pick by the New York Islanders in 2021, Raty only played 12 games for his original franchise before he was dealt to Vancouver as part of the January 2023 trade that sent Bo Horvat to the Isles.
Raty has split time between the NHL and AHL for the Canucks. In 118 career NHL games for the Canucks and Islanders, he has amassed 29 points (14 goals, 15 assists) and 42 penalty minutes. He also has won 59.2% of his faceoffs.
He has represented Finland in international competition and was part of the nation’s 2026 IIHF world champion team. Raty recorded four goals and three assists in 10 games in that tournament.
Buhr, 24, has yet to make his NHL debut. He appeared in five games for the Maple Leafs’ AHL affiliate last season and had two assists.
Quillan, 24, appeared in 24 NHL games for the Leafs across the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons and registered one goal and two assists. He was scoreless in four appearances this season for the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.
