Oct 17 (Field Level Media) – CLEVELAND — The first pitch of Game 4 of the American League Championship Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and host Cleveland Guardians was delayed by rain Friday.
All signs pointed to Major League Baseball attempting to get the game in Friday, but there was no indication when they would begin as of 8:40 p.m. First pitch was originally scheduled for 8:08 p.m.
At one point before the game, workers removed the tarp from the infield and dumped rainwater into the outfield, but the diamond had to be covered again.
The Guardians lead the series 2-1, and they are scheduled to host Game 5 on Saturday before a travel day planned for Sunday. The Rays would host Games 6 and 7 in St. Petersburg, Fla., if the series required it.
Game 3 on Thursday was moved up from an evening start to 1 p.m. due to inclement weather in the forecast. The Guardians prevailed 3-2 to move in front in the series.
