(Washington, DC) — U.S. embassy officials are on high alert across the Middle East following reports that Iran is in the “advanced stages” of planning attacks against Americans. The New York Times reports a memo from Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton said agencies received intelligence that Iran has “substantially increased efforts to target U.S. personnel” in the region. The warnings come after the U.S. ordered non-emergency government employees to leave Saudi Arabia this week, as attacks from Iran-backed Houthis worsened. The Saudi-led coalition said it destroyed two ballistic missiles fired by the group Saturday.
