No Senate Winners Yet In AK, MS

SHARE X Facebook

(Washington, DC) — A winner has yet to be decided in the Senate races in Alaska and Mississippi. It’s still too early to call the race in Alaska between Republican Dan Sullivan and Democrat Mary Peltola, while the race between Democrat Scott Colom [[ kuh-LOHM ]] and Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith remains too close to call. In Alaska, it could take days or weeks because of the state’s enormous size, especially between rural communities, and its ranked-choice voting system. As of Friday morning, Peltola was leading Sullivan by 600 votes with about 75 percent of the votes counted. If no candidate gets above that threshold, then a new round of counting begins to determine voters’ second choice votes. In Mississippi, Colom was leading Hyde-Smith by a little over 18-hundred votes with around 95 percent of the vote counted.
