US, Morocco and Israel Agree to Upgrade Embassies, Restore Direct Flights

By The Media Line Staff

The United States, Morocco and Israel have agreed to deepen diplomatic and economic ties, with Morocco and Israel moving to upgrade their diplomatic missions to full embassies, exchange ambassadors and restore direct flights before the end of the year.

Those commitments were announced in a joint statement released Wednesday following talks in New York between US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz, Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita and Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa’ar.

Wednesday’s meeting marked a renewed push to expand relations established under the Abraham Accords, which Morocco signed in 2020 along with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan.

Among the most immediate steps, Morocco and Israel agreed to work toward reinstating direct flights before the end of the year, with both Israeli and Moroccan airlines expected to operate routes between the countries.

Both governments also plan to finalize agreements on investment protections and the avoidance of double taxation by the end of 2026, to make it easier for companies and individuals to invest and conduct business in both countries.

Economic cooperation featured prominently in the talks, with officials discussing trade, finance and investment, technology and innovation, tourism, water, agriculture and food security, development, energy and telecommunications. The three countries also discussed regional security and agreed to pursue high-level visits in the coming months.

The United States and Israel reaffirmed their recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the entire territory and backed Morocco’s autonomy proposal as the only basis for resolving the dispute. They described the proposal as serious, credible, and realistic and said alternative approaches would prolong the status quo.

Morocco and Israel also praised President Donald Trump and the United States for their role in advancing regional normalization and reiterated their commitment to the Abraham Accords.

The United States and Israel recognized the historic relationship between Moroccan monarchs and Jewish communities with roots in Morocco, including those living in Morocco, Israel and the United States.
