Zelensky Backs Freezing Ukraine Front Lines as Russia Agrees To Resume Talks

By The Media Line Staff

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Wednesday that he is prepared to freeze the current front lines as part of an agreement to end the war with Russia, while seeking security guarantees for Ukraine from the United States and Europe.

Asked on “Fox & Friends” whether he would accept an agreement that left Ukraine controlling “75% or more” of its territory, Zelenskyy said halting the fighting along existing lines could provide a path toward ending the conflict.

“Yes, right now, we have to freeze,” Zelenskyy responded. “And I think this is [a] real way to end this war. We call it ceasefire or ‘stop killing’ like President Trump called it.

“Freeze and stop. And, of course, this is the minimum of what we need from Russia today. Then, of course, we will go to [the] president and to Europeans, and we’ll ask security guarantees,” he continued.

His comments came before Kremlin spokesperson Yuri Ushakov said Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed “in principle” to restart trilateral negotiations with Washington and Kyiv after Nov. 10.

Ushakov spoke to The Associated Press following a three-hour meeting Wednesday between Putin and US special envoy Steve Witkoff.

During the meeting, Witkoff announced that Russia had agreed to release US teacher Stephen Hubbard. Russian prosecutors accused Hubbard of fighting alongside Ukraine as a mercenary, an allegation he denied, and he was sentenced to prison in 2024.

Zelenskyy recently resumed strikes against Russian oil refineries after President Donald Trump announced an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine earlier this month. The Ukrainian president said the attacks were retaliation for Russian strikes following the announcement.

Fighting continued Thursday despite the diplomatic efforts. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said 15 people were injured in a Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital that damaged sections of the metro system running above the Dnieper River on the “Southern Bridge.”

Russian missiles also struck Kyiv following another attack the previous night that injured six people and damaged homes, a gas station and transportation equipment.

In Russia, one person was injured in Lipetsk after drones hit residential buildings and a medical facility. A large steel plant operates in the city.
